The most popular beaches? In Sardinia, of course

New summer, new rankings, one certainty: the Island’s beaches are always present

On the podium of the most beautiful in the world, dominant in the Italian top 10. Sardinian beaches even in 2024 are a certainty in the ratings published by specialized websites. Among the most prestigious, The World's 50 Best Beaches elects the 50 most beautiful beaches chosen by a jury of a thousand travel experts and influencers, who awarded the 'silver medal' to one of the jewels of the Sardinian east coast, Cala Mariolu. No less important is the recognition of TripAdvisor users: here the island leads the way, with four coastlines among the top ten on the Peninsula.

Cala Mariolu

Right after a Caribbean beach, on top of the world there is her: Ispuligi de nìe, better known as Cala Mariolu, 'pearl' of Baunei and the Gulf of Orosei. According to The World's 50 Best Beaches website Cala Mariolu is the second best beach in the world and the most beautiful in Europe. It will impress you with the blue, azure and emerald green hues of the sea and the sandy shore composed of small pebbles that look like snowflakes, mixed with soft sand and pink pebbles. The surrounding cliffs rise 500 metres straight out of the sea: you can reach the cove by sea or by trekking (for experts) through thick, green Mediterranean vegetation.

Cala Goloritzé

Two of the three Italian beaches on the list of the world's top 50 are in Sardinia. Both in Baunei: in 19th place comes Cala Goloritzé. The beach offers fabulous scenery: it nestles between a forest of arbutus and holm oaks and two natural features, Perda Longa and l’Aguglia, a 100-metre pyramid. You will reach it from Baunei or its coastal hamlet of Santa Maria Navarrese, by car to the Golgo plateau, then with a long, but not very difficult hike.

La Pelosa

An iconic place, a postcard-perfect paradise in the far northwest. It is nothing new, indeed it is customary that in TripAdvisor's 2024 ranking it is ranked second among the most beautiful beaches in Italy. La Pelosa in Stintino is a masterpiece, made by fine and white sand, clear and very shallow seabed for tens of meters, turquoise and blue sea that blends with the sky. The many juniper bushes in the area help remind you that you are in Sardinia despite the Caribbean surroundings. In front there is a little island with an Aragonese tower, which is the symbol of La Pelosa

La Cinta

The famous tourism review website also sees Sardinia take the first step outside the podium: fourth place for La Cinta in San Teodoro. It is one of the symbols of the northeastern coast and the whole Sardinia: a five-kilometer-long ribbon of fine, shimmering sand with an arcuate shape and with dunes covered in centuries-old junipers, which separates a lagoon from the sea. La Cinta overlooks the marine protected area of Punta Coda Cavallo, in front of which the imposing profile of the island of Tavolara stands out.

Poetto

If the seventh place on TripAdvisor's portal belongs to the ubiquitous Cala Mariolu, the tenth is occupied by one of the largest city beaches in Europe, with its eight kilometers of coastline between Cagliari and Quartu Sant'Elena. Poetto is a must see destination for visitors to the capital, during summertime and on any sunny day during the rest of the year, a mandatory stop to enjoy its soft sand and blue sea, to relax, have fun and enjoy sports or even just for a coffee break or an aperitif being 'cuddled' by the sea breeze.
