The airport is located south of the city of Olbia, 10 minutes away from downtown. It is named Costa Smeralda, after the famous tourist resort in the Gallura; it is an intense hub of international tourist movement that characterizes the northeast of the island.

Ships dock in the harbour of the picturesque fishermen’s village of Arbatax; together with the small airport, they make up the entrance doors to Ogliastra and the eastern part of Sardinia, easily reachable from Cagliari and Olbia as well.
