Porto Conte - Capo Caccia Regional Park

To the north of Alghero is a vast park made up of forests, ponds, natural monuments, archaeological sites and the Capo Caccia - Isola Piana protected marine reserve. Along the extensive coastline you will find high cliffs of calcareous rock perched over the water’s edge, home to grottoes with magnificent geological formations that have, over time, become nature’s own cathedrals. The Capo Caccia promontory is a treasure trove of natural gems, like Grotta Verde, covered in musk and lichens, and the Grotta di Nettuno (Neptune’s Cave), that can be reached by boat or over land along the Escala del Cabirol stairs.

Asinara National Park

You can reach Asinara Island from the port of Stintino or Porto Torres. The scenery here is utterly gorgeous and the tour can be done in a variety of ways: by sea on sailboats or fishing boats, on foot or on mountain bikes over hiking trails or in 4X4s with park rangers. The coastal and inner areas are also interesting for the numerous species of rare birds that nest there, some of them autochthonous, and for the famous white donkeys (asini, in Italian) that gave the island its name.
