An ideal destination in every season and perfect for a wedding. An evocative, romantic and enchanting land: an increasing number of couples choose the most picturesque corners of Sardinia as a place in which to celebrate their love. Numerous guests get to know the island while on holiday, leaving behind a little piece of their heart and they sometimes return to take it back on one of the most important days of their lives. Many say “I do” in famous and captivating places, others in less well-known, poetic places reminiscent of an archaic past, in the bucolic peace and quiet or far away from the hustle and bustle of today’s world: a lighthouse, a cave, a sacred well, the rows of vines in a vineyard kissed by the sun, in gardens where fragrances and colours are transformed by the changing seasons. Dream weddings are celebrated throughout much of the island: the bride and groom spend the pre-event and honeymoon there, while their guests often stay on and take a holiday.
Where? In the Costa Smeralda above all. Thanks to the sea, the beaches, the little coves and the extra luxurious atmosphere in Porto Cervo and the surrounding area. The island of Tavolara is also a splendid setting that looks directly out onto the sea. Not just the emerald green Smeralda glamour and coastal beauty, but in the deepest and most lush area in heart of Gallura there are evocative locations like stazzi, eighteenth-century rural settlements or ancient villages, which have become hotels, and settings that evoke atmospheres in which time seems to be standing still, with low stone houses, little squares, courtyards and gardens. Dwellings set in the greenery of Mount Limbara are now accommodation facilities, welcoming havens where silence rules and magical settings for weddings. Also in Arzachena you will find breathtaking scenery and ancient charm for your wedding ceremony, not only on the shore, but also in facilities that blend into the Vermentino, Carignano and Cannonau vineyards.
On the opposite coast, the two most sought-after destinations are Alghero and Bosa. In the Goceano region, in central-northern Sardinia, you can get married in the woods and forests: like sa Fraigada, between Anela and Bultei. In the Barbagia region, in the heart of the Island, there are numerous places where you can celebrate your big day, with the appeal of the mountains and rustic-chic resorts. Then there is the Ogliastra area, much-loved for its wild allure, for happy couples ready to take the plunge. In the Medio Campidano area, the Sanluri castle is an elegant setting for a wedding. A beautiful flight of stone steps leads to the “palace”, while the patio is surrounded by lush plants, ideal for a wedding reception in the open air during the milder seasons and for splendid photo shoots. Nearby, amidst the gentle hills, you will find another oasis of peace and well-being, perfect for celebrations: the Terme di Santa Maria Aquas thermal springs in Sardara, once chosen by the Ancient Romans and now a place of beauty treatments and well-being. The civil wedding ceremony takes place in the “spa park”, while the religious ceremony takes place in the intimate little medieval sanctuary.
Then there are the beaches of southern Sardinia. The mild Mediterranean climate, the warm breeze, the briny fragrance and a heavenly view accompany the celebrations in the open air, not only in summer. Along the entire southern coast, weddings can be held by the sea, on stretches of soft, pure white sand, from Cala Sinzias in Castiadas to Santa Margherita in Pula. At Quartu Sant'Elena the choice ranges from the Room of Frescoes in the former Capuchin convent to Poetto, both in in the Quartu part and in the Cagliari part. A few metres from the water's edge, you can choose between a daytime ceremony, with the sunlight shining on the topaz blue sea, or an evening ceremony, when bride and groom can swear their eternal love with the fiery sunset in the background, as it fades away behind the Sella del Diavolo (the "Devil's Saddle" promontory). Or you can choose the places guarding ancient and evocative memories, like the Capo Spartivento lighthouse in Teulada. Going back along the southwestern coast, other places that will make your wedding ‘one in a million’ include the former mining sites of Nebida and Masua (in the territory of Iglesias), high up above the sea with a view of the Pan di Zucchero sea stack. While in the ‘heart’ of the Sulcis region, the ancient setting of the former cathedral of Santa Maria di Monserrato in Tratalias is an excellent candidate for welcoming the bride and groom on their big day.
