An enchanting bay of soft sand that plunges into the crystal-clear sea was chosen as the most beautiful beach of 2018 by the experts of Skyscanner, a famous website focused on the world of holidays, compiled on the basis of the cleanliness of the beach, the clarity of water and the landscape. Cala di Monte Turno owes its name to the unmistakable, rounded profile of the relief that stands behind it. It stretches along 300 metres in the form of an arch at the gates of the long and splendid coastline of Costa Rei, comprised of the rocks of Sant’Elmo to the north and the Marina di San Pietro to the south, in the Castiadas territory. What renders it particularly striking is the contrast between the blue and turquoise crystal-clear water, the green of the lush vegetation, the dark volcanic rock of the backdropping hills, broken up by the bright white of the soft and fine sand. The white colour takes on amber reflections on the shore. Gnarled junipers stand out in the midst of the Mediterranean scrub rising up behind. The seabed is sandy, with an almost-immediate plunge.

The beach is quite exposed to the winds, hence it is very popular with surfers and kite surfers, who come here from all over the world. On the beach, you will find places for refreshments and entertainment throughout the day and night, with beach equipment available for hire.

The 13 kilometres of Castiadas coastline, a renowned location within Sarrabus characterised by a valley lush with products of excellence, is one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in Sardinia. A succession of white sand and dazzling colours results in a visual mosaic that is perfect not only for summer but also for short getaways during spring and autumn. Setting out from the south, in the direction of Villasimius, one discovers another jewel, Cala Pira, with soft dunes surrounded by granite and Mediterranean scrub, a corner of paradise protected by a promontory surmounted by a tower of the same name. Then there is Cala Sinzias, ideal for lovers of being on the road: two kilometres of soft white sand, a clear sea bed and blue waters. A number of campsites can be found amongst the lentisk, pine and eucalyptus trees behind. Then there are the beaches of Cannisoni and the Marina di San Pietro (or, Cala Marina), extensive and beautiful, with its golden reflections. North of Monte Turno are the ten kilometres of the Costa Rei beaches of fine golden sand, two of which fall into the territory of Castidas and eight in that of Muravera. You will encounter the beaches of Sant’Elmo and Santa Giusta, right up to the ‘Scoglio di Peppino’, the rock forming the boundary between the two municipalities. Backdropping the coast is the mountainous profile of the Oasi dei Sette Fratelli, an ideal park for taking relaxing walks, dotted with canyons, gorges, defensive towers, valleys crossed by rivers and dotted with pre-Nuragic, Nuragic and Roman sites.
