One of Sardinia’s excellent wines and among the symbols of a territory in which the re-enactment of traditions is often accompanied by moments of sharing, conviviality and celebration. From Bosa, one of the Borghi più belli d’Italia (most beautiful villages in Italy), you will be following a short itinerary through villages very close to each other and surrounded by vineyards, each worthy of a visit, to discover their picturesque views and appreciate their flavours and hospitality.

Bosa

A city of colours, of the only navigable river in Sardinia and of the imposing medieval Malaspina castle. There are plenty of experiences to enjoy, with a glass of Malvasia wine and a tasting of typical bistokku bread: losing yourself along the streets of the Sa Costa neighbourhood, taking part in the Karrasegare ‘Osincu, the irreverent carnival of Bosa, visiting the ancient tanneries, the museums and the wonders of Bosa Marina and the coast, like the natural pool of Cane Malu.

Modolo

In less than ten minutes by car from the Ponte Vecchio bridge in Bosa you will reach Modolo. It is a very small town, but this did not stop it from becoming part of the Borghi Autentici d’Italia (authentic villages of Italy). It is surrounded by the greenery of vineyards, olive groves and cherry trees, and excellent cheese is produced here. The abundant archaeological evidence in the surrounding area is also interesting. The best time to visit it and taste Malvasia wine is in May, during the celebration of the patron saint, St. Andrew.

Magomadas

Not even three kilometres separate Modolo and Magomadas, a winding journey along provincial road SP35, with a view that opens up onto the Planargia valleys. The village stands on a hilltop with a view stretching to the sea: in fact, its territory includes the coastal hamlet of Santa Maria del Mare. The link between Magomadas and wine production is represented by the Planargia Wine Museum, located inside an ancient 18th century clergy house.

Tresnuraghes

The three nuraghi have almost disappeared. However, the three coastal towers of Foghe, Columbargia and s’Iscra Ruja, built by the Spanish Crown in the 16th century, are still proudly on display. Porto Alabe is its picturesque seaside village, embellished with splendid beaches. The town is rich in churches and historic buildings and preserves deeply-rooted traditions: religious festivals are an opportunity to taste local specialities, naturally accompanied by a nice glass of Malvasia wine.

Flussio

After a ‘detour’ southwards to Tresnuraghes, you’ll return to the heart of Planargia. Flussio is just two kilometres from the previous location and it features two excellent productions: in addition to Malvasia wine, the town stands out for the art of weaving, using asphodel harvested in the vicinity. Events are dedicated to this plant, such as Tirende isciareu (‘harvesting the asphodel’), a re-enactment of the harvesting ritual, and a museum, where you can admire corbule and baskets made from dried stems.

Tinnura

This time the distance is practically zero. Flussio and Tinnura are connected and crossed by the same road. Tinnura shares the production of Malvasia wine and asphodel baskets, but it is also characterised by art: it is an ‘open-air museum’ with splendid murals that tell the story of traditional life in the town, as well as monuments and statues created by Sardinian artists. You can admire the colourful paved flooring and the Zodiac and Funtana ‘e giosso fountains.

Suni

A few hundred metres more and the itinerary ends. Suni extends around the church of San Pancrazio, with its celebrations that include an Ardia horse race, and tells the story of its past in the Tiu Virgiliu house-museum. Its archaeological park is not to be missed, with Domus de Janas and two nuraghi. Not far away, you can go birdwatching in the Sa Paule pond. Finally, we return to the village to discover its food and wine heritage and taste the locally-produced Malvasia wine.
